About Dr. Vladeck
Bruce C. Vladeck was administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration from 1993 through 1997. Subsequently, he was a presidential appointee to the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare. He has served in other senior management positions: assistant commissioner of health in the New Jersey Department of Health, president of the United Hospital Fund, senior vice president of Mount Sinai Medical Center, and interim president of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He currently chairs the board of the Medicare Rights Center, and serves on the boards of Penn Medicine and Mary Imogene Bassett Medical Center, while acting as a senior adviser to LiveOnNY and the Greater New York Hospital Association. He has previously served on many other boards. Vladeck is the author of Unloving Care: The Nursing Home Tragedy, and more than 100 articles and book chapters in the professional literature. He received a B.A., magna cum laude, from Harvard College, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from the University of Michigan. He is a recipient of the National Public Service Award and the Robert M. Ball Award in Social Insurance, along with many other honors.
