Assessment of Community - Level Policy and Environmental Changes for Obesity Prevention

The Office of Nutrition and Fitness (ONF) at the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior (DHSS) received funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to develop and implement strategies to prevent and control obesity and other related chronic diseases through healthful eating and physical activity. To meet these goals, ONF is partnering with the New Jersey Health Officers Association to enable local health departments to implement policy and environmental change using evidence-based strategies to improve nutrition and increase physical activity at the community level. A minimum of three (3) mini-grants will be awarded to local health departments. CSHP will collect data on policy, systems, and environmental change strategies currently in place for these pilot sites and assess the intervention process through case study interviews to identify facilitators and barriers and document lessons learned.
